The first reason is the police themselves. In London, there were twopolice forces. The Metropolitan police and the City Of London police. The murders took place in both of the jurisdictions. The police forceseach had separate investigations going on and they did not shareevidence or information with each other. This hampered theirinvestigations because a vital clue being held by one police force mayhave linked in with evidence being held by the other police force. This prevented either police force from solving the mystery.

The technology at the time stopped the police from gatheringsufficient evidence from the crime scene. The police could not takefingerprints, blood samples, DNA and could not analyse it. They wereunable to differ between human and animal blood. This meant that allthe police could do was search the crime scene for any evidence thatcould be seen with the naked eye. No magnifying equipment wasavailable to search for tiny clues. Clues were found at the crimescene. A bloody cloth was found at one of the victims’ body, howeverthis was useless to the police, as they could not analyse the blood onthe cloth that could have made that catching the killer was possible. The note written on the wall could not have been fingerprinted forclues because this technology was not available. This was the same asthe letters that were sent to the police. …

… in aterrible state. This meant that the post mortems were difficult andthe coroners were unable to get any clues from the corpses. No oneactually saw Jack The Ripper Kill. Many different descriptions weregiven on the killer but no one actually saw him commit murder. Thismeant that the police had no idea of where and when he killed becausehe could have moved the bodies.

I believe that the most important reason why Jack The Ripper was nevercaught was because of the police. Their tactics were not suitable forcatching a serial killer, as they had never experienced one before. Also, the limited technology made it difficult for the police togather any evidence or clues from the crime scene.

Because of this main reason, and other reasons Jack The Ripper escapedbeing caught and remains a mystery to this day.
