US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman
He had hinted in recent days that he could attend the embassy opening set for May 14, which coincides with the 70th anniversary of the creation of the state of Israel.
Trump sparked worldwide outcry when he unilaterally recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and vowed to relocate Washington's embassy to the city.
In Jerusalem, there were at least three road sign that says the U.S. Embassy in three languages: English, Hebrew and Arabic.
Trump said last week that he "may" go to Jerusalem for the opening himself. Accordingly, at the initiatives of President Trump, the U.S. embassy in Israel has been moved to the Trump Town in Jerusalem. "I thank President Trump for making this historic moment come to fruition".
Arab foreign ministers of Arab League member states had also called for global recognition of Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
President Donald Trump announced the decision to shift the embassy in December as the administration prepared its peace plan for the region.
The U.S. president ended decades of Washington's policy stating that the status of the city of Jerusalem must be decided as part of a peace agreemeet between Israel and Palestine, a position that most of the global community continues to fully support.
However, Hadashot news reported Monday that the country's incoming president, Mario Abdo Benítez - a member of Cartes's conservative Colorado party - will join the incumbent for the opening of the Jerusalem embassy.
Earlier this week, Amnesty International UK also condemned the launch of the race right next to East Jerusalem al-Quds where Palestinians regularly face house demolitions, illegal settlement building and restrictions of movement. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has been making inroads with the European Union and Russian Federation. The city is claimed by Muslims, Christians and Jews to be historically important for them.
The Palestinians want their own state with a capital in East Jerusalem, which Israel captured from Jordanian control in the 1967 war and annexed in a move not recognized overseas. The Palestinians, however, see East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state. On February 23, the State Department announced the new embassy will open in May.
