Amateur video clips of heavy gunfire from the Khozama district Saturday of the capital sparked worries of possible unrest.

A spokesperson for the interior ministry said a framework regulating the use of drones was in "its final stages", state-run SPA news agency reported on Sunday.

There was no information of where the king was.

Saudi's King Salman was not in a palace at the time of the attack, according to a senior official cited by Reuters.

"Small, drone-type remote-controlled recreational aircraft was deployed without being authorized to do so, which required security personnel at the security point to deal with them in accordance with their orders and instructions in this regard". Reports confirmed that King Salman was not inside the palace during the incident.




Asked about the footage, the official said the drone had been shot down, and added that the government would introduce regulations for the use of recreational drones.

Even the 32-year-old leader ousted his elderly cousin as crown prince past summer at a palace coup after which jailed senior royals as part of an anticorruption sweep.

Last October a gunman shot dead two Saudi guards and wounded three others at the gate of the royal palace in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, according to the interior ministry.

Since 2009, all-women fitness clubs that are not under the supervision of a government hospital or clinic, were closed down after leading Saudi Arabia's clerics have condemned the gyms and clubs for "shamelessness".
