The Canadian PressApr. 14 2018 8:30
Vice President Mike Pence, attending an global summit on Saturday, said he backs President Trump's assertion earlier in the day that the US -led airstrikes this weekend in Syria resulted in "mission accomplished".
During his meeting with Pence, Pena Nieto urged for the relationship between Mexico and the USA to be based on "mutual respect".
Pence said that the Trump administration considered every potential response in developing its plan for the Syrian strike and its monitoring the environment for any retaliation.
The meeting between the Pens and Trudeau was largely overshadowed by the air strikes conducted in Syria; in addition, both politicians condemned the alleged use by the Syrian government of chemical weapons on April 7, which killed at least 40 people and injured hundreds more.
While attending the America summit at the Washington D.C. Pence said he supported the statement of US President Donald Trump referring to Syria attack as "mission accomplished" saying that Syria operation is "completely successful" as quoted by The Fox.
Kelly told his colleagues that Nick Ayers, Pence's chief of staff, didn't fully brief him about Lerner's past roles, Axios reported.
Pence also said the administration is trying to address the problem of space congestion.
Pence said the USA "is ready to sustain the response" until the Syrian regime abandons the use of prohibited chemical agents.
The US Vice President said the topic of funding for the border wall did not come up in the meeting, while acknowledging that the two countries have differences.
While the crisis in Syria was front and centre, Trudeau and Pence also expressed optimism about the state of NAFTA negotiations, the results of which will have dramatic ramifications for the USA and Canada.
