BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY CANCELS CLASSES AFTER SECOND STUDENT MURDER IN FIVE WEEKS

Stabbing on BU's Campus, Suspect At Large

"They have reported that this does not appear to be a random act", the university said.

Faughnan said while there now is no "active threat" to the campus, additional police patrols were to be maintained overnight.

Jonathan Ross, superintendent of the Blind Brook school district in Westchester County, told the Journal News that Souza graduated past year from Blind Brook High School in Rye Brook, where he was a standout soccer player.

A 19-year-old freshman was fatally stabbed on New York's Binghamton University campus and a fellow student suspected of attacking him was taken into custody after a search Monday, reports CBS affiliate WBNG.

Police from multiple agencies investigating the stabbing interviewed "numerous people" throughout the night, according to the university. Binghamton University's website says that the suspect fled after the stabbing and now remains at large.

"As someone who was a student until a few months ago, and someone who is still a part of the BU community, it's tough to hear about something like this happening on campus", Taylor said.

Classes at Binghamton are canceled today. "I'm absolutely sure we'll do that again". A 22-year-old nursing student named Haley Anderson was killed in her off-campus home in March.

The school is offering counseling services for students, faculty and staff.

Conrad Taylor, 21, a December Binghamton University graduate who also serves on the Binghamton City Council, described this tragedy as heartbreaking - a disgusting crime.

Roque plead not guilty to the charge of second degree murder in the death of BU engineering student Joao Souza.
