UPDATE: Mother of child thrown off roof in police custody
The mother of the child was Katie Pladl, 20, who was Steven Pladl's biological daughter and his wife. Steven and Katie were Bennett's parents.
Friedman said there wasn't a suspicion that the child was in peril.
In March 2017, Steven presented Alyssa with the journal and said the 11-year-old was "acting out". The Thursday rampage left all three are dead, along with the woman's adoptive father.
About 20 minutes earlier, 600 miles north in New Milford, Conn., police responded to a report of a shooting and found a man and a woman dead in a pickup truck with NY plates, the victims of a double homicide.
Authorities believe Pladl killed the child before driving up to New Milford, Conn. where he fatally shot Katie, and Anthony Fusco, her adoptive dad. There, they found their son, 7-month-old Bennett Pladl, dead in a suspected homicide.
The day before the murders, he picked up his son from her, saying he planned to take the child to NY to see his mother. Officials later found Steven dead of a self-inflicted gunshot across the state line in NY.
Steven Pladl's mother called police in North Carolina to say she had gotten a disturbing call from her son and to ask officers to check on the well-being of her infant grandson.
Then, police found a man and a woman shot to death in a pickup truck in New Milford, Connecticut, after a passerby reported the shooting. He told me to call police and that I shouldn't go over there.
Police who were called to the residence by Steven's mother asking them to perform a welfare check at 9am, came upon the boy's lifeless body. "I can't even believe this is happening", she told the operator. Police confirmed he had killed himself in his auto after driving across state lines into ny.
Katie Pladl was released on the condition that she move back with her adoptive parents, who live in NY.
Police have saved a six-month-old baby girl who was thrown off the roof of a shack in South Africa by her father who was protesting the demolition of an illegal township. The baby was born in September.
Alyssa Pladl, Steven Pladl's ex-wife and Katie's biological mother, told the British tabloid The Daily Mail earlier this year that she wanted her former husband to spend time behind bars, but she wanted Katie to undergo therapy and rebuild her life.
August 2016: Katie moves in with her biological parents in Virginia.
Last January the father and daughter were arrested in Virginia and charged with incest.
The mother said Steven Pladl had picked the child up from her Wednesday night.
"He said he was taking his own life when he got off the phone in NY", she told a second dispatcher. Pladl had told his then-wife a year ago that he had impregnated their daughter and planned to marry her. Over the course of the day, Steven Pladl was also located, Capps said.
