Liverpool are in the semi-finals of this season's Champions League after securing a 2-1 win at the Etihad on Tuesday night.

"City took all the risks they could take, we needed a bit of luck and a disciplined defending formation".

"We can not compare what we've done in the Premier League when we are here", said Guardiola.

"I said he (the referee) was wrong", said Guardiola when asked about his dismissal.

In his first season, Klopp guided Liverpool to the 2016 Europa League final where they lost to Sevilla but he is now contemplating a leap upwards in terms of quality of opposition.

And a different Liverpool emerged for the second half, with their increased attacking intent being rewarded when Salah produced a classy dink to draw them level on the night shortly before the hour mark.

Four of City's seven defeats this season have come in the competition, with the two by Liverpool following losses at the hands of Basel and Shakhtar Donetsk, while Barca collapsed in dramatic style at the Stadio Olimpico.

"We had luck in a couple of moments to be honest, but when you look over the two games we have been courageous and when you are fearless the luck goes with you".

What is surprising is the fact that form leading up to this hat-trick of huge games was very good at the back and City will end the Premier League as champions and with the meanest defensive record of them all.

"It was weird because we didn't catch up well from the beginning".

"We played for 10 months amazingly", he added.

"Real have been there, done it and bought the T-shirt so they know what it takes to win the Champions League on a regular basis, and seeing Barcelona go out will give them an extra spring to think they can win it for a third straight year".

"From a personal point of view I don't want Real Madrid in the semi-finals".

"After that we came back, we played hard and we got the result - that's the most important thing".

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren admits there was plenty of shouting at halftime of their Champions League win at Manchester City.

City's European exit capped a wretched week, which also saw them blow the chance to clinch the Premier League title against bitter rivals Manchester United but Guardiola called on his players to deliver one last push.

"You can not imagine how much intensity you feel before a game like this", he said.
