Germany edge in front ahead of Nadal-Zverev clash in Valencia
Rafael Nadal became a Davis Cup record breaker today as he returned to action for the first time since January to bring Spain level with Germany in their Davis Cup World Group quarter-final. "He is not at 100% yet, but if he can win a match or two, it can help him", said Moya.
Zverev showed a bit of fight in the final game of the opening set, lining up two break point chances of his own, but Nadal held firm and wrapped it up at the third time of asking after just 34 minutes. "I think Philipp played one of the best matches I have ever seen him play".
"But in general it was a very important match and I am very happy".
Nadal will make his return from injury when Spain take on Germany in the Davis Cup. Kohlschreiber twice fought back from a set down, but former French Open runner-up Ferrer broke in the 11th game of the decider and held his nerve on serve after nearly five hours on court.
Puetz and Struff won an epic doubles encounter lasting four and a half hours on the clay court at the Plaza de Toros bullring in Valencia, 6-3 6-4 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 7-5.
Cilic's Croat team-mate, Borna Cilic, couldn't keep up the victorious start and succumbed to Mikhail Kukushkin later on Friday, ensuring all three quarter-finals played earlier on Friday finished at one win apiece after the opening round of matches.
ITALY 1, FRANCE 3 Venue: Valletta Cambiaso ASD, Genoa, ITA (clay - outdoor) Lucas Pouille came from a set down to send France into the semi-finals, defeating Fabio Fognini 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3), 6-3.
In Varazdin, Ivan Dodig and Nikola Mektic overcame Kazakhstan's Timur Khabibulin and Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-7 (2) 6-4 6-4 6-2 to hand hosts Croatia a 2-1 lead.
The heavily-favored USA team took a 2-0 lead against a depleted Belgium side on the indoor hard courts in Nashville, Tenn., to come within a point of its first Davis Cup semifinals in six years.
While Spain look to reach the Davis Cup semi-final for the first time since 2012, Nadal will have to be mentally strong to take tough calls.

Lue returns for Cavaliers
It's a crucial game, isn't it? "He wants us to play fast as well", shooting guard Rodney Hood said, as he compared Lue to Drew. And he doesn't have a head-coaching job in this league? "Our rotations were a little off tonight so, I mean, I was rusty".
