Israeli defence minister says 'no innocent people' in Gaza

Quoting partners on the ground, a United Nations spokesperson said today that supplies of essential drugs and medical disposables are running low at health facilities in the enclave while an ongoing electricity crisis that has hampered the functioning of hospitals. I live in Gaza City. These were the lines of Yaser Murtaja, a photojournalist, a few days before he was killed.

Beleaguered by years of rocket attacks from next-door Gaza, residents of the frontline Israeli village of Nahal Oz seemed unmoved on Sunday by Palestinian mass demonstrations at the border and Israel's deadly response to them.

During the protests, Palestinians built a tent encampment with different tents corresponding to the various villages and towns that were destroyed during the Nakba 70 years ago. Over 1,000 were reported injured.

Among the injured were 290 children, 51 women, seven journalists, and three paramedics.

"I again stress the urgency to accelerate efforts to return to meaningful negotiations that will eventually allow Palestinians and Israelis to live in two democratic states side by side in peace and within secure and recognised", he added.

Israel's use of live ammunition has drawn condemnation from human rights groups, which say it is illegal under worldwide law.

The latest casualties were bound to draw new criticism from rights groups that have branded Israel's open-fire orders on the border as unlawful, after Israel's defense minister warned that those approaching the fence were risking their lives.

Britain should also consider stopping the sale of arms to Israel that "could be used in violation of worldwide law", Corbyn said.

Unemployment is approaching 50 p.c, in line with official Palestinian figures.

The U.N. human rights office said Friday that it has indications that Israeli forces used "excessive force" against protesters last week, when 15 Palestinians were killed or later died of wounds sustained near the border.

The General Secretary of Reporters Without Borders, Christophe Deloire, posted a Tweet that said Murtaja was deliberately shot although he was wearing a vest that indicated he was a journalist.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has called on the worldwide community to find a new formula that would deny the USA the right to veto Security Council resolutions demanding the establishment of an independent inquiry commission on events in Gaza.

More than four hundred Palestinians were taken to hospitals and medical centres for treatment.

Photos showed demonstrators running from tear gas fired by Israeli forces.

The organizing committee overseeing the demonstrations, which includes representatives of major militant factions in Gaza, have said they consider such acts as nonviolent in the face of armed soldiers.
