Toy tycoon Isaac Larian - founder and chief executive of MGA Entertainment, maker of Little Tikes, Bratz dolls and LOL Surprise - says he was in talks with several major toymakers to support his buyout bid but they have since withdrawn.

While the closing of Toys R Us is a bittersweet prospect for kids of the '80s and '90s in particular (like myself), there is a big question about whether it's the sort of "cause" that needs to be fought.

Many people are getting nostalgic as they return to shop at Toys R Us for one last time.

Toys "R" Us did not collapse because of "millennial parents". The company has a Toys R Us store in Tulsa at 6910 S. Memorial Drive and a Babies R Us at 10010 E. 71st St.

The store has an iconic place in American culture, said Larian. We can't sit back and just let it disappear.

Larian, with a net worth of $1 billion, according to Forbes, and associated investors personally pledged $200 million.

Nickednamed the "Toy King" by the press during the chain's heyday, Mr Lazarus launched what became Toys R Us aged 25. Toys "R' Us stores especially created a magical feeling for children roaming aisles filled with Barbies, bikes, lego and countless other toys".

As the liquidation sale is underway, the store announced all sales are final. It's harder to ship such bulky items on Amazon.

In 1992, Lazarus traveled with President George H.W. Bush for the opening of the first Toys R Us in Japan. MGA, based in Van Nuys, California, is the world's largest privately held toy company. She said she will miss the store, which stood out from other big-box retailers.

Adam Deemer of Claymont recalled visiting Toys R Us after doctors' appointments.

The planned closure of the U.S. Toys R Us stores over the coming months will finalize the downfall of the chain that succumbed to heavy debt and relentless trends that undercut its business, from online shopping to mobile games.

A liquidation sale started Friday after the company recently announced it would shutter all its USA stores.

Another wrote: "Wow, we can try to save a toy store but can't raise money to protect our schools better".
