New Mexico unemployment rate dips to 5.8 percent in January

Wisconsin's unemployment rate reaches an all-time record low of 2.9 percent

Illinois Payrolls Rise, Unemployment Dips in February

Higher education and health services added another 2,200 jobs, led by increased employment at universities and professional schools.

The U.S. rate has stayed at 4.1 percent the past five months.

"2017 was the first time since 2000 in which the monthly unemployment rate remained below 4 percent for the entire year in the Commonwealth". Wisconsin remains the only state in the Midwest to have lower unemployment than in at 2.9 percent.

It said the number of unemployed people aged 15 years and over-3.45 million last year-increased by 124,000, year-on-year.

LePage released a press statement March 23 about the 2.9 percent unemployment rate for February, which is down from 3.3 percent a year ago and 8.1 percent when he took office in 2011.

The labor force participation rate, which measures how many people are working out of everyone 16 or older, was 68.6 percent, which is still well short of the record high of 74.8 percent in September and October 1997.

"This is a tremendous new milestone for the Commonwealth's economy and affirms our efforts to fill the jobs of the 21 century with a first-class workforce", said Governor Northam.

The biggest decline was 3,800 in the trade, transportation and utilities sector.

Professional, Scientific and Business Services added 700 (+0.1%) jobs over the month. Over the year, Manufacturing gained 1,800 (+0.7 percent) jobs. Virginia is also tied with MA for the seventeenth-lowest unemployment rate in the nation.

But leisure and hospitality had a tough February, losing 2,900 for the month.

Job-creation in Wisconsin, however, has lagged the national average for more than six years. "Nonfarm employers added 11,500 positions compared with the prior month. Last year had the weakest job growth of any year since the end of the Great Recession".

"Across the entire north central region the numbers are quite low making it rather hard for employers to find people to hire", Lezcano said.

JUNEAU, Alaska-Alaska's total employment was down an estimated 0.7 percent in February from February 2017, a loss of about 2,300 jobs.

A net job gain of about 20,800 in February, on top of a 10,800 gain in January, was "some of the strongest growth that the state has seen in years", Waddell said. The labor force was up 17,700 from the 3,651,900 February 2017 estimate, with 31,800 more residents employed and 14,100 fewer residents unemployed.

Local jobless numbers are not adjusted for changes in the seasonal economy, so those Springfield numbers from January probably reflect the end of holiday hiring at retailers and shipping companies.

The number of workers unemployed in OH in February was 262,000, down 9,000 from 271,000 in January. This measures the share of the population that is neither employed nor actively seeking work.

The number of unemployed in February was 95,099, the lowest number since May 2008.
