Travel Nightmare Becomes 'Best Flight Delay Ever'
United Airlines gave passenger Allison Preiss a $10,000 travel credit after removing her from an overbooked flight on Thursday, representatives confirmed to MONEY. Airlines often give travel vouchers for passengers who give up their seats on flights, although travel experts said this one was a bit on the higher side. Unfortunately for Preiss, she was the one removed from the flight.
"If United had offered a $5,000 voucher from the start, someone else would have stepped forward".
"Since nobody volunteered, they then announced that the lowest-fare passenger would be pulled out of the boarding line", Preiss said. Her original flight from Reagan National Airport to Austin was canceled because of the winter snowstorm, as were thousands of other flights across the country, so she rebooked on the Dulles flight. "Sketchy af", she wrote on Twitter.
United upped the limit for voucher like the one Preiss was given after an infamous incident in which a man was dragged, screaming, off a flight.
She took it. Along with two $10 meal vouchers. "I am going to go INSANE at Pizza Hut". Most recently, they caused a puppy to suffocate in an overheard bin and accidentally sent a different dog to Japan instead of its intended destination in Missouri.
Of course, it was also to be competitive: Delta Airlines had quickly capitalized on its rival's PR nightmare, raising its policy to include remissions of up to $9,950 shortly after the video went viral.
