The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch Monday for most of MA and Southern New England, with the fourth nor'easter of the month set to hit the region this week.

WHAT... Heavy wet snow possible, with a total wet snow accumulation of 5 inches or more.

The weather is likely to start as rain, then become freezing rain during the day on Tuesday, leaving a coating of ice of up to an inch, before turning to snow late Tuesday.

"Plan on hard travel conditions, including during the evening commute on Wednesday", forecasters said.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm and coastal flood watches ahead of Wednesday's storm.

For the month of March, Southern New England has felt the effects of a weather pattern, "more like a February pattern", that's delivering cold air from Canada and supporting storm development off the coast, Samuhel said.

The chance for precipitation continues into Wednesday night before the system moves out of the area.

In fact, the forecast through next Sunday is for temperatures to not get above 45 degrees on any one day. Less than 2 inches likely with less accumulation due to several factors, including the high sun angle and a high pressure system a little too far away for an all-snow event.

Precipitation will change from rain over to wet snow Tuesday night into Wednesday. In central and northern Trumbull and Mercer counties, we expect around 3-6 inches. Snow tends to accumulate faster in rural areas and higher elevations than in urban areas and lower elevations. Nor am I going to drone on about how this is a low confidence forecast. After two inches have fallen, crews will be able to begin to push snow and/or continuously treat affected areas.

How strong of wind gusts? .

Snow will gradually end across the area Wednesday. Stay tuned for more updates today, and especially Monday as more data will help us to narrow down the specifics.
