The "Beast from the East" has returned to Surrey and Hampshire as a blanket of snow falls across our two counties - but how long will it last?
Mark Wilson, a Met Office meteorologist, said: "It's going to be a very, very cold start, with a widespread frost and ice around as well".
Charlotte Armitage, citizen science officer for the Woodland Trust, told the Metro: 'When we get prolonged mild periods as we have done recently, plants and wildlife are fooled into thinking the seasons are changing and start to become more active. These will be heaviest and most frequent across southwestern areas, so we're talking parts of Wales and the south west of England in particular. "Meanwhile, parts of Dartmoor and South Devon could have a further 10-15 cm, with as much as 20-30 cm over some eastern parts of Dartmoor".
He said snow showers in other parts of the country are expected to ease throughout the day, with some spells of sunshine possible.

"Windy with significant wind-chill, as temperatures struggle to exceed freezing across many areas".
A spokesman for British Airways told the Sun: "Poor weather conditions are forecast across parts of the United Kingdom across the weekend, so we have merged a small number of flights travelling to or from Heathrow Airport".
"You can do this by checking the Met Office website for the daily forecast or our warnings page, or you could download our weather app which will ensure you can keep up to date while you are out and about".
