After the awful 950-ton bridge collapse on Thursday in Miami, the rescue workers began removing cars on Saturday from the scene.

Miami-Dade police said Saturday they had recovered all five bodies of people in vehicles crushed under the Miami bridge that collapsed Thursday. Two were listed in critical condition when they arrived and one person died at the hospital.

Engineers had also held a meeting Thursday morning "to discuss a crack that appeared on the structure", FIU said in a statement Saturday.

He said it is unclear whether the collapse started in that area, and investigators have not determined whether the tightening of those cables "was related to the cracks that they discovered".

He said "Our hearts break for the victims of the bridge collapse", and said the university is working with the National Transportation Safety Board and others to get to the bottom of what happened.

A total of eight cars were trapped under the bridge after it crumbled, including six that were "significantly entangled", authorities said.

Police had feared the death toll could rise above six.

FIU student Alexa Duran, 18, was also killed, according to reports.

Earlier in the day, they removed two vehicles and three bodies in the wreckage of the bridge.

Perez said 950 tons of rubble were moved in the search for the victims.

The pedestrian bridge, which was meant to connect Florida International University and the city of Sweetwater, collapsed Thursday afternoon on cars on the busy roadway below. They are 57-year-old Oswald Gonzalez, 53-year-old Alberto Arias and 60-yeaer-old Rolando Fraga Hernandez, 60. Another victim, who died in a hospital after the collapse, was identified by police as Navarro Brown.

The bridge was under construction when it collapsed onto a major highway, killing at least six people.

FIU on Friday evening said that they are providing free mental health and counseling services to students, faculty, staff and any members of the community who were affected by the incident.

Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez says DNA may be needed to confirm some victims' identities, along with fingerprints and family photographs.

"It's going to be a long process", Perez said.

"We tried to duck, but at the same time, it was just way too fast", Humble, who suffered a neck injury but was able to walk away, told "Today".

Two days before the collapse, an engineer with the design firm left a voicemail to say some cracking had been found at one end of the concrete span, but the voicemail wasn't picked up until after the collapse, Florida Department of Transportation officials said Friday. The state had done a preliminary safety review of the bridge's design but did not oversee construction safety, a state transportation department official said Friday.

Two days before the span fell, a FIGG engineer called a FDOT employee to warn of "some cracking".
