Giants, Solder, Agree to 4-Year Deal

Giants make another move to boost offensive line

If Tom Brady didn't hate the New York Giants already, Big Blue's move to sign his left tackle, Nate Solder, away from the New England Patriots might be what pushes "Tom Terrific" over the edge.

Per multiple sources, the New York Giants are expected to sign offensive tackle Nate Solder, thus ending his tenure in New England.

While there were some big names available in free agency, such as Andrew Whitworth and Ricky Wagner, the Vikings signed former Detroit Lions offensive tackle Riley Reiff. SiriusXM Sports says the contract is worth $19 million and includes $9.5 million guaranteed.

The Patriots enter this week with around $22 million in cap space. Waddle saw time at left tackle three times last season - twice against the Jets and once against the Bills. Carey will return to the Jaguars after spending the last seven years in Detroit.

Thomas, in the final year of his contract, will make $10.3 million in base salary if he plays in 2018. ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the deal.

Solder turns 30 on April 12.

Meanwhile, former Patriots Malcolm Butler and Dion Lewis are striking deals with the Titans. With the legal tampering underway, I'd certainly expect Solder be connected to a numerous amount of teams, including the Texans. Both players are on the older side, but if the Patriots also plan to draft a left tackle, then it would be preferable to have a one- or two-year fill-in. Center Weston Richburg only played four games because of a concussion and the versatile Justin Pugh was in eight at left guard and right tackle because of back problems.

- Cleveland Browns star left tackle Joe Thomas has retired after 11 seasons in the National Football League, ending a career in which he exemplified durability, dependability and dominance.

Solder was an AFC Pro Bowl alternate in 2017. He has missed just one game since arriving in Philly.

But the Browns look completely different this year and might actually have a chance to compete (?!?).
