NFL.com's Mike Garofolo reports the Packers have "reached out" to free agent Jimmy Graham. The specifics of the contract have not been disclosed, and the move can not become official until Wednesday afternoon and the start of the new league year.
Nelson played nine seasons for the Packers and was one of Aaron Rodgers favorite targets during that time. The club also acquired QB Deshone Kizer from the Cleveland Browns in a trade last week.
Packers are releasing WR Jordy Nelson, per source. The only other tight ends the Packers had on the roster before moving on Graham were ex-University of Wisconsin standout Lance Kendricks and youngster Emanuel Byrd.
In his ten-year career he has 6,800 yards receiving and 69 touchdowns. Graham would theoretically replace Martellus Bennett, who was released late last season. All six of those TDs came before Rodgers' Oct. 15 injury. He responded one season later with 97 grabs, good for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns.
