Google's Android security patch for March now available for Nexus and Pixel devices
If you're looking to grab the first build of the Android P dev preview you can do so by hitting the button below.
It seems we won't have to wait for March 14th (Pi Day) for the Android P developer preview, with Google opening the Developer Preview today. In Android P we're expanding and improving this API, adding support for nine new ops - Pad, BatchToSpaceND, SpaceToBatchND, Transpose, Strided Slice, Mean, Div, Sub, and Squeeze. Additional user accounts can also be given access to view and manage models, builds, and updates for any product, according to Google. This will include the ability to access functions like smart replies or attach photo and stickers through the notification interface instead of opening the messaging app.
Of course, it's more than possible that Google's Android team will slip in a new Easter egg in future releases of Android P. However, for the moment we are not getting anything like the Flappy Bird clone game that was hidden away in Android 5.0 Lollipop, or even the black animated octopus that you could play with in Android 8.0 Oreo. This should open up new capabilities for apps, so that they can access streams simultaneously from two or more cameras. Google hasn't really detailed the consumer-facing new features of Android P just yet. A hardware abstraction layer (HAL) provides the underlying API for enumerating a variety of Secure Elements (eSE, UICC, and others). ART now uses profile information for on-device rewriting of DEX files, with reductions up to 11 percent across a range of popular apps. Pixel 2devices will also have support for Qualcomm's Hexagon HVX driver, giving developers further improvements in performance on those devices. Google is also working with JetBrains to optimize Kotlin's generated code. This build won't be released to the Android Beta Program, and you'll need to flash it manually.
Data cost sensitivity in JobScheduler - this allows developers to manage scheduled tasks or work across Doze, App Standby, and Background Limits. Google is also changing the defaults for Network Security Configuration to block all cleartext traffic. If you find any bugs, you can report them here.
