The video is unsettling, and it isn't unique; other Echo owners have reported that their devices have been laughing too, either in response to a question, or entirely unprompted.

"We're aware of this and working to fix it", said Amazon. Some people said that they thought it was an actual person laughing in their home, which can undoubtedly be scary if they were home alone. That outage occurred well after the first recorded incident acknowledging Alexa's apparent laughing problem.

Are you experiencing this creepy Alexa laugh on any of your Alexa enabled devices?

And this is why I'll never become so lazy that I can't get up to flip a switch myself.

"I was trying to turn off some lights and they kept turning back on. After the third request, Alexa stopped responding and instead did an evil laugh", the user wrote.

"Ha ha ha", she says, in a voice that sounds like Alexa + four glasses of wine.

Short of little Carol Anne speaking from inside the TV in the 1982 classic "Poltergeist", it's tough to imagine something we'd rather hear less than Alexa just chuckling out of nowhere on the kitchen counter. Last year, a viral video showed a woman asking Alexa whether she was "connected to the Central Intelligence Agency", but the Amazon Echo device stayed silent and then went to sleep without a word.

Deezer announced today that its streaming platform is now fully supported by Alexa, allowing Premium+ users to use Amazon's Echo smart speakers and other Alexa-compatible devices like the Sonos One, to control media playback with their voice. "No indication on the app that the device heard any command".
