Winter Storm Elsa is on the way, Noon Update!

In this National Weather Service map areas in blue indicate where a winter storm watch has been issued for Wednesday

Some coastal communities in MA are bringing in heavy equipment to clear sand, rocks, downed trees and other debris that were left blocking waterfront neighborhoods after last week's storm.

During the day and into the evening on Tuesday, around another inch of snow is possible in southern Wisconsin, before skies begin to clear overnight as the storm system finally exits the region, the Weather Service said. The storm is expected to reach the Long Island and New Jersey shorelines Wednesday evening and night, bringing heavy snow and rain. Here is what to expect during the storm. This includes rain and the water equivalent of snow and ice.

Heavy snowfall is expected inland in the Northeast, parts of which may see more than a foot. Even as we continue to deal with the aftermath of last week's system, there is no rest for the tired as another strong, albeit not quite as powerful system looks to push into the region as early as late on Tuesday, with another chance for some gusty winds and snow as well. Some rain could even mix with the snow closer to the Great Lakes.

Another winter storm is on its way.

Philadelphia officials say all schools and municipal offices will be closed Wednesday due to a snowstorm expected to dump inches of heavy, wet snow on the city late Tuesday into Wednesday. Morning lows will be in 20s and temperatures should rise higher into the 40s Sunday afternoon. The storm will intensify on Wednesday and the time of peak precipitation is likely on Wednesday afternoon, during peak intensification offshore. However, as our storm develops and bring down colder air, rain is likely to change to snow for everyone later Tuesday night and Wednesday. I am concerned about more power outages tomorrow night and early Thursday, especially over interior areas where the power was not affected as much as it was along the coastline last week. The precip ends Thursday morning (therefore also impacting that commute). Temps will hold in the low 30s. "That storm was exceptionally powerful - one of the strongest we've ever seen".

Correia said the current forecast is for 8 to 12 inches of snow west of Boston and into Rhode Island and CT.

The weather service has posted a winter storm watch for the western part of the state, where the storm will arrive first.

"Any time it's around the freezing point and snowing this time of year, it's a wet snow", he said.
