Met Office weather warnings latest - Is it going to snow?
24 February 2018, 07:04 | Shelley Chandler
"By Thursday it is likely that it will be become exceptionally cold and day time temperatures may hover just around freezing or even below freezing in some places with widespread severe frost at night".
The Met Office says wintry flurries will begin in the east tomorrow as the weather feels "increasingly cold" with a "marked windchill".
Officials at the Met Office have already warned that the in-coming chill could be a danger to life for the elderly and the very young, while a series of warnings have now been issued in readiness for the arrival of the bitter conditions.
They added "Power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phones may be affected".
"The air cools and moisture turns to snow, we are expecting this effect from Monday".
A detailed statement from the Met office said it is working with partners in road, rail and air transport to help minimise the impacts on the public.
Disruptive snow showers are also expected from next Tuesday onwards, particularly in the east and southeast.
The forecaster said: "There is a lot of uncertainty in the extent and timing of snow during Tuesday".
Snow is expected mostly in eastern areas, with snow set to accumulate in some parts.
"Sunday will be a dry and sunny day".
Negative phases of the NAO are typically associated with colder and snowier-than-average conditions on both sides of the Atlantic, but in this case it's mainly going to affect Europe, at least at first. There will be a widespread sharp to severe frost and drivers are advised to slow down and be mindful of areas of black ice.
It will be very cold on Monday night with a severe frost and the risk of snow showers along northern and eastern coasts.
