Flood watch issued

Rain We Energies

The Flood Watch that was previously in effect for areas NW has been expanded to include most of central in until Wednesday morning.

The heaviest rainfall is expected from Monday afternoon into the night, the weather service said, raising the possibility of flooding and the chance for slick road conditions.

Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area through early Wednesday.

By late Wednesday the rain is expected to stop and the temperatures are expected to drop.

Every day this week we are expecting rain. Seven months ago, at the end of an overnight rainstorm, the phrase "Des Plaines River nears flood stage" was cause for alarm.

National Weather Service predicted its crest at 7.7 feet at 1 a.m. Thursday. This covers flooding of basements and flooding in low lying areas.

The Watch takes effect Tuesday evening and remains in place through late Wednesday night. The coolest high temperature we will see this week will be on Wednesday with temperatures still reaching the 40's.

People in the Watch area are advised to monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings.

While there has been some precipitation this winter, most of the rain has been so light that it has not brought much relief.

High-standing water is being reported in many areas.

If this much rain does occur, flash flooding and river flooding will become a concern.

More severe flooding is expected for St. Joseph and Tiffin Rivers by Friday and Saturday.
