Weekend weather: Warmer temperatures and rain on the way
According to the National Weather Service, periods of snow will be much lighter south of I-70 where anywhere between a dusting to an inch of snow are expected.
The National Weather Service predicts potential scattered snow showers in areas north of the Massachusetts Turnpike late Friday night. General ice accumulations between one- and two-tenths of an inch are possible. This will likely be the third large storm system in less than a week that will produce a lot of snow in areas west and north of New Jersey - but not in New Jersey.
Central Indiana may see several hours of light freezing rain starting early Sunday morning and continuing through mid-morning. The coldest temperatures will likely reside across our northern and western-most counties, which is where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect.
The temperature was in the low 20s before dawn and was expected to hit a high in the mid-30s later in the day, the National Weather Service said. We should see a little more than what we got last Tuesday, but it will NOT be an ice storm causing power outages.
Snowfall has come to an end in Great Falls, but still plenty of fresh snow on the roads and sidewalks.
Freezing drizzle mixed with snow is possible now through 3 a.m., the weather service said.
Winds are expected to be between 5-10 miles per hour.
Rapelje saw 10 inches, and Laurel reported 8 inches of snow. Conditions will go downhill overnight Saturday and into Sunday as moisture spreads across the region. Cloudy with highs near 29°. There is also the chance for some freezing drizzle developing late Friday night.
Saturday's high is expected to reach 30 with a low of 21.
Thursday: 20 percent chance of rain, otherwise, partly sunny day with a high of 73.
Not enough seals for Polar Bears to survive
While the decline has been easy to observe, the causes have been more elusive, given the remote areas the bears inhabit. The bears' metabolic rate was more the 50 per cent higher than previous studies had suggested.
