Citing "sources", Borges wrote that Brady was planning on holding out from the Patriots' offseason workouts unless he got a big pay raise that was on par with the recent contract Jimmy Garoppolo signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

Ron Borges of the Boston Herald reports that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has chose to get compensated in a way that he never really has.

After the story went up this morning, Kirk & Callahan at WEEI exposed Borges by tweeting out the text chain.

The Boston Herald has pulled an article from veteran sportswriter Ron Borges and suspended his regular columns, the paper announced on Friday, after a story about a money-hungry Tom Brady turned out to be false.

The Globe suspended Borges March 5 for lifting numerous passages from a February 25 article written by Mike Sando of The News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash. for one of his Sunday Globe "Football notes" columns.

A WEEI listener called into the radio station Friday morning saying he had posed as Brady's agent Don Yee to supply false information to a Herald columnist.

Borges' column was printed in Friday's Herald.

A source told Kyed to "trust your instincts", which is good advice, unless you have Borges' instincts, in which case you probably should do a little more research.

Sando had posted his piece to an online notes-sharing network used by Borges and other sports reporters nationwide.

Only one problem - it looks as if Borges based the premise of his column on hoax texts sent to him purporting to be from Brady's agent Don Yee.
