Democrats say they are trying to protect the country's democratic processes from a foreign enemy.

Despite this, he told the BBC he was "confident that America will be able to have a free and fair election".

Pompeo and other intelligence officials have acknowledged attempts by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin to influence the 2016 presidential campaign, despite refutations from the White House.

He added that China also poses a threat and has the ability to gain access to American information.

In an interview with the BBC aired on Tuesday, US intelligence chief Pompeo said Russian Federation had a long history of information campaigns and said its threat would not go away.

He then brought up the efforts put to get hold of United States commercial information and access to hospitals and schools, efforts which reached the UK and Europe.

Russian Federation has been accused of meddling in the 2016 US Presidential election and Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the allegations, which Moscow denies, and whether there was any collusion involving President Donald Trump´s associates.

Pompeo further informed that that the Chinese "have a much bigger footprint" than the Russians do, as an example he quoted the efforts to steal United States commercial information and infiltration of schools and hospitals.

"We deliver almost every day, personally, to the president the most exquisite truth we know from the Central Intelligence Agency", he said.

"We're going to work on those complicated problem sets and push back against the Iranians everyplace we can", he told the BBC. The North Korean nuclear and missile programs now threaten not only the region but also the United States mainland. President Trump has publicly doubted the intelligence community's findings, but the CIA said in November that stands by the assessment attributing Russian Federation with interfering in the 2016 election.

One year into his tenure, CIA Director Mike Pompeo joins AEI's Marc Thiessen to discuss the Trump administration's response to these challenges and his vision for the agency's future.

"It is absurd, the claim that the President is not engaged and does not have a grasp on these important issues is risky and false", Mr Pompeo said. "Whatever the facts may be, we deliver them unvarnished as accurately and forcefully we can".
