LS Speaker seeks cooperation from parties for smooth Budget session

The budget session will open with President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to a joint sitting of both houses of Parliament on Monday. Following the address the economic survey will be tabled in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha

He said, the government will persuade all the parties to pass the bill in the Rajya Sabha unanimously.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, speaking ahead of the Budget Session 2018, said that he hoped that the Triple Talaq Bill will be passed by Parliament this session.

He said that the law to ban instant triple talaq will soon become a law and the Muslim women can live a life free of fear and dignity.

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said that "These issues are important".

"Almost all opposition parties highlighted that the duration of the session was very short and a wide range of issues need to be discussed".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday exhorted all political parties to collectively strive to create a constructive atmosphere in Budget Session to achieve national good.




The Budget session of Parliament began today.

Ananth Kumar said that the BJP would leave no stone unturned to convince the party over the Triple Talaq Bill.

He said though there should be no politics on the issue as it relates to the rights of Muslim women, the Bill could not be passed. PM spoke about how this budget session was important and that committees are there to discuss issues. "Let the House decide", he added.

President Kovind says government keen on reducing economic disparity.

Mahajan made the appeal to leaders of various parties at a dinner hosted by her, a day before the start of the budget session.

The Opposition was represented by Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge, Samajwadi Party's Mulayam Singh Yadav, Communist Party of India's (Marxist) D Raja, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Kanimozhi, Derek O'Brien and Sudip Bandhopadhyay from the Trinamool Congress, and Tariq Anwar from the Nationalist Congress Party. Parliament will be adjourned for a recess on February 9 and reassemble on March 5.
