24 January 2018, 12:30 | Colleen Roy

National Weather Service issues ice warning

Chance of rain and a possible overnight thunderstorm

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48.

Sunday: A 50 percent chance of showers.

Heavy rain and high winds will stretch into the afternoon, and forecasters cautioned that some parts of MA are at risk for flooding that could impact the evening commute and power outages. The chance of rain is 90 percent. West winds around 5 miles per hour.

Thursday will be the warmest day of the week with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s as it turns a bit breezy before stronger winds return Friday with highs just a couple degrees cooler but still well above average for this time of year. Low: -7. Day: Partly cloudy and cold. Wind chill values -15 to -20 degrees. Northwest winds 10 to 15 miles per hour. The expected high temperature is right around 40 degrees.

Other than Monday night, the week should be sunny and clear. Winds W/SW 5-10 miles per hour. Night: Partly cloudy and cold.

Saturday, January 20: High: 31. We will see a slight chance for light isolated showers as well, not a bad idea to grab the umbrellas. West wind around 10 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 15 miles per hour.

The storms should mostly clear up after 11 p.m., then give way to smaller showers for the rest of the night, forecasters predicted. Southwest winds 10-15 miles per hour. Cloudy, with a low around 47. West / southwest winds 5 to 10 miles per hour.

That advisory begins at 3 p.m., and extends until Tuesday at 9 a.m., since the freezing rain could also impact commuters on Tuesday morning. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 29.

Overall this week the mild temperatures will continue with more rain chances as we head into the next weekend.

Rain will become widespread again during the night with the rain turning to showers later.

Tuesday, January 23: High: 12. The combination of shear, some weak instability and uplift triggered along the front - and as part of the larger weather system - will be sufficient to trigger bands of showers and some embedded thunderstorms during the morning. Glaze from the ice storm affected 70 percent of the state, and was accompanied by high wind, causing power outages. Cold with northwest winds 5 to 10 miles per hour.
