For 5th time Israel extends jailed teen’s detention

A Palestinian man was killed and two Israeli soldiers were injured in a West Bank raid to capture the suspect responsible for the drive-by shooting death of an Israeli rabbi.

Israel has not yet released the identity of the terrorist who was killed overnight.

"Our guys rest on Saturday, their guys rest on Friday", said one Israeli official, referring to the Islamic holy day on Fridays.

Hours later, however, the Palestinian health ministry said it had been mistaken, and that a different man with a similar name had been killed.

The Israeli military said Palestinians hurled improvised explosive devices, cement blocks and rocks at troops who fired tear gas, rubber bullets and live fire.

Jarrar's house was demolished, as was an adjacent house belonging to another member of his family.

Rosenfeld said two police officers were wounded, one of them seriously in the fighting.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the commandos had gone after the suspected killers of Shevach, a resident of the Havat Gilad outpost, who was shot in his auto in a drive-by attack on January 9.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement praising Israeli forces.

Hamas hailed the dead man, calling him a "hero who was killed in direct combat".

After the attack, Israel's military set up roadblocks, cordoned off Palestinian villages and deployed reinforcements to the area searching for suspects.

According to Hamas, the younger Jarrar, is the son of Nassar Jarrar, a senior Hamas commander in the West Bank and leader of the terror group's forces in Jenin before being killed by Israeli troops in 2002.

Hamas Spokesman Abdel Latif al-Qanou posted a statement on Thursday claiming that the incident "could not have happened without information sharing and...security coordination,"& and demanding that such "criminal" coordination between Israel and the PA "be ended".
