Celebrities react to unexpected death of The Cranberries' lead singer Dolores O'Riordan
Irish singer-songwriter Dolores O'Riordan, frontwoman of the multi-million selling rock band The Cranberries, died suddenly in London on Monday aged 46, her publicist said.
The band's publicist confirmed O'Riordan's death in a brief statement, "Irish and worldwide singer Dolores O'Riordan has died suddenly in London today". Dolores won an EBBA (European Border Breakers Awards) in 2008, which recognized her as one of "10 emerging artists or groups who reached audiences outside their own countries with their first internationally released album in the past year".
O'Riordan was reportedly in London for a short recording session.
"To all those who follow and support Irish music, Irish musicians and the performing arts her death will be a big loss".
When O'Riordan dealt with her alleged airplane issues and was arrested, her mother revealed to The Irish Mirror that O'Riordan's kids were with their father in Canada. Shocked and saddened to hear of her passing, thoughts are with her family. O'Riordan's unique diction and vocal tone, blanketed with her thick brogue, gave the Cranberries' records an unusual and addictive quality.
Irish musician MayKay said the singer had a "huge impact" on her.
From The Cranberries' relatively divisive third album, To the Faithful Departed, comes the adored "When You're Gone", which O'Riordan wrote alone. Their guitar-based sound had an alternative-rock edge at a time when grunge was storming the music scene. I'd never heard somebody use their instrument in that way.
Leading the way were Irish singer's, Ronan Keating and Delta Goodrem's ex, Brian McFadden, as well as bands Hozier and Duran Duran, and talk-show host James Corden.
"My first time hearing Dolores O'Riordan's voice was unforgettable", he said.
"She had the most wonderful voice and presence".
Posted below are the two songs I loved the most from The Cranberries. Nevertheless, she had seemed in good spirits prior to Christmas.
It was there she escaped from her sometimes relentless global fame and lived for years with her family.
