Google Unifies Its Payment Platforms, Introduces Google Pay

Bringing it all together with Google Pay - Google Blog

Google's revamped mobile payment service has arrived, now called Google Pay.

Google Wallet, as it was originally known, allowed users to both send funds to one another, like Venmo or PayPal, and use their phone's NFC capabilities for tap-and-pay physical transactions.

In addition, the Android Pay logo at payment terminals will eventually be replaced by the new G Pay logo, the same logo that'll be used for all of Google Pay's online partners. Android Pay, Google Wallet, and Pay with Google will receive the streamlining they've been aching about for a long time and will henceforth be bundled into Google Pay. Lastly, Instacart orders of at least $35 completed with Google Pay by January 16 score $10 markdowns. You might remember previous payment solutions Google has offered through the years such as Android Pay and Google Wallet. But in 2017, Google's service trailed seriously behind its competitors - Samsung Pay and Apple Pay, according to Juniper Research and payments industry site PYMNTs.

The rebranding effort is already underway, with some existing users already witnessing the Google Pay rebranding at several locations. Google says you'll see Google Pay online, in-store, and across Google products, as well as when you're paying friends. Google Pay is already available on Airbnb, Dice, Fandango, HungryHouse, Instacart, among others. You can find out more about it on Google's blog.
