He has a 95-81 career record.
Gruden's 10-year, $100 million contract is the richest in National Football League coaching history and matches Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson (both with the Cowboys) for the longest, the Times reported.
The Raiders officially announced Gruden will be their new head coach shortly after the game.
Gruden is returning for a second stint as coach of the Raiders after being traded to Tampa Bay following the 2001 season. "We congratulate you as you head back to the sidelines with the Raiders". Now returning to the team that provided him with his first Head Coaching gig, he'll walk on to the field in front of thousands of fans who adore him.
Gruden beat the Raiders in the Super Bowl in his first season with the Buccaneers but didn't win another playoff game for Tampa Bay in his final six seasons. The defence struggled mightily before a late-season switch from fired co-ordinator Ken Norton Jr.to play-caller John Pagano.
In 2006, former owner Al Davis hired Art Shell, after firing him the first time. You might be familiar with "Gruden's QB Camp", which was as segment on ESPN where Gruden would interview college quarterbacks entering the NFL Draft.
"Coach as we wrap this one up, all of us last night in our production meeting had a chance to tell you what we think about you, and how much you've meant to us and to Monday Night Football, and what a great way to send you off".
Gruden's contract extension with ESPN is through 2021, however, he was given a warm send-off from the sports broadcasting company.
