A balloon carrying foreign tourists on a sightseeing trip south of Egypt's city of Luxor crashed on Friday morning, leading to the death of one tourist and injuring seven others, according to the state-run newspaper Al-Ahram.

In 2016, 22 Chinese tourists were injured when their balloon crash landed, after which Egypt temporarily halted balloon rides. Balloon flights were grounded for two months after that accident.

Earlier in the day, Egypt's meteorological service had warned of strong winds across the country mainly in the Nile River delta and northern Egypt.

In 2013, 19 foreign nationals were killed near Luxor - a popular tourist destination - when their hot-air balloon crashed due to fire. The woman killed was a 36-year-old South African and the injured were tourists from Spain, South Africa and Argentina, according to a government official.

Luxor has suffered a series of hot air balloon accidents.

In 2015, at least 19 people, a lot of them Asian and European tourists, died near Luxor when a hot air balloon caught fire and crashed after a mid-air gas explosion.
