Sid Meier’s Civilization 6 land and water

Apple iPad owners who are used to paying just a few dollars for non-free mobile games might be in for a bit of sticker shock if they plan on playing Sid Meier's Civilization VI on their tablet.

For the uninitiated, Civilization VI is the latest in a long line of turn-based strategy games.

We tried the game out and found that it is indeed the full Civilization VI experience, as promised.

On the iPad, nearly nothing is changed from the PC version of the game. Speaking of which, this game requires one's iPad have iOS 11 installed as well. If you're an existing fan of the franchise with compatible hardware, I know you've already purchased this so I won't waste my breath.

After that, the game costs half as much as the regular Windows or Mac version with the introductory promo price. The mobile port has been developed by Aspyr Media, the studio that has previously ported titles from series like Civilization, Borderlands, BioShock and others to macOS and Linux. These games appeal to different audiences, and they're easier to play in short sessions on the go.

And it's like.the full, complete version of Civ VI that you get on the PC.

Unfortunately, with a fully featured PC game comes a fully featured PC price. Since the iPad version feature lesser number of features, it would make sense for the game developers to price it at a lower point.

Civ VI is available now on the iOS App Store.

Local multiplayer is available but as to whether online and cross-platform multiplayer will be supported, that's as yet unknown. Bringing over the DLC from the PC version as well as the upcoming Rise and Fall expansion is in the cards, however, Aspyr says it "cannot confirm timing or availability at this time". Regarding add-on content, Aspyr said, "We hope to support DLC and expansions in the future but can not confirm timing or availability at this time".
