Trump’s plans if fully implemented could alter the US’s ties with the rest of the world
The White House on Sunday confirmed media reports from Russian Federation that US President Donald Trump had spoken to Russia's Vladimir Putin on Sunday.
A statement on the Kremlin's website says President Vladimir Putin called U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday to thank him for the information.
"Information obtained from the Central Intelligence Agency was sufficient to search for and arrest of criminals", the Kremlin statement said.
Putin told Trump that the information provided by the CIA allowed Russian law enforcement agencies to track down and detain a group of suspects that was planning to bomb the Kazan Cathedral and other crowded parts of Russia's second-largest city. While Trump and Putin are believed to get along well, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and an intelligence committee set up by the House of Representatives continue to investigate allegations of collusion between the Trump campaign team and Kremlin officials in the run-up to last year's U.S. presidential election.
The statement also noted that the Russian president even extended his gratitude to CIA chief Mike Pompeo, which Trump promptly passed on to the agency.
Russia's FSB security service said in a statement on Friday that it had detained seven members of a cell of Islamic State supporters and seized a significant amount of explosives, weapons and extremist literature.
Putin and his United States counterpart have welcomed the prevention of a terror attack as a positive example of bilateral cooperation, the White House statement read.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed the call Sunday.
A special counsel is investigating whether anyone from the Trump campaign colluded. U.S. intelligence agencies have previously concluded that Russian Federation tried to meddle in the 2016 presidential election in an effort to help Trump get elected.
This is the second time in less than a week that two of the world's most powerful leaders have exchanged messages of praise.
During the first call, they also discussed during ways to work together to address North Korea's nuclear and ballistic weapons program, the White House said. Putin has denied the allegation.
