Bahrain participates in OIC ministerial meeting
The Sudanese presidency last Wednesday said that President al-Bashir had received a telephone call from President Erdogan who invited him to the extraordinary Islamic summit over the holy city.
Pakistan strongly condemned US President Donald Trump's move to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, voicing its concern "over the implications of this decision for worldwide peace and security, especially in the Middle East", according to a Foreign Office statement.
He reiterated his country's support for the Palestinians until they establish their "full state with Jerusalem as its capital".
The summit will be preceded by the Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting which will be attended by Khawaja Muhammad Asif. Several countries had still not said who they would send to Istanbul. "Some Arab countries have shown very weak responses", Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said. "It seems some countries are very timid of the United States".
"We will make a call for countries that have so far not recognized Palestine to do so now", he said.
"We are waiting for the OIC to take a decision that matches the anger of the nations", Haniyeh said, pointing out that the expected decision is "to reject the U.S. recognition". Saudi Arabia will be represented by its Islamic affairs minister.
The hard-line Turkish paper Yeni Safak, known for its strong support of Erdogan and his Justice and Development (AK) Party, wrote that the conference is expected to go beyond messages of condemnation and take action to reverse the United States decision.
A source confirmed to The Media Line that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki were scheduled to arrive in Turkey Tuesday night in order to partake in the conference.
"With the roadmap, we will create during the OIC meeting, we will show that (Trump's) decision will not be easy to implement", he said. Thereafter, al-Maliki stated, on behalf of the PA leader, that "Jerusalem is and will remain the eternal Palestinian capital [despite any attempts] to assassinate its identity or falsify its history".
