Strong cold front sends temperatures plunging — FIRST ALERT FORECAST
06 December 2017, 12:39 | Lowell Little
Warm Tuesday, but wet snow possible late this week
We'll start off the week with temperatures above average for this time fo the year, but a mid week cold front will bring the week to a chilly end. It will be a bitterly cold day with fresh, gusty north to northwest breezes and afternoon temperatures of just 3 to 6 degrees. At the moment, it looks like rain will spread from the west on Saturday night and will turn to snow for a time as it meets the cold air.
The inflow of arctic air is expected to bring plenty of sunny spells, but the temperature will be far lower than the milder weather the United Kingdom is now experiencing.
Temperatures will run 18° to 24° above normal Monday with high temperatures in the lower to middle 60°s.
Tuesday will be warmer, with a high in the mid-50s, with rain likely in the afternoon.
Friday morning starts off with lingering cold rain showers along the coast and a slight risk of rain in the Pee Dee, a cold rain/winter mix in NC.
High temperatures will go from mid-60s to 70s today, to highs around the mid-30s to 40s beginning Thursday. Sunny spells will be interspersed with showers of rain, sleet and snow. We're certainly looking at a more interesting pattern, which is often the case in December, and we will have lots to talk about in my forecast tonight.
The beaches and most of the Pee Dee will only get a very cold rain late this week, but our North Carolina counties will get very close to the freezing mark Friday and Saturday morning. Temperatures should be in the low 30°s by Tuesday evening.
Christmas trees and decorations are a fire hazard
This year customers may want to head to the Christmas tree lot a little earlier as a tree shortage is hitting the entire country. It's the experience of going out with the family and just walking around and enjoying it.

There are fears the volcano could erupt for the first time since 1963, when almost 1,600 people died. Spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the volcano's alert status remains at the second-highest level.
