Trump blasts ABC News reporter Brian Ross over 'horrendously inaccurate and dishonest report' on Michael Flynn

Mueller has so far charged four people in his investigation of possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian officials, most recently former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Flynn was the first member of Trump's administration to plead guilty to a crime uncovered by Mueller's wide-ranging investigation into Russian attempts to influence the 2016 USA presidential election and possible collusion by Trump aides.

Trump posted on Twitter while in a motorcade in Manhattan: "I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the Federal Bureau of Investigation".

"What has been shown is no collusion, no collusion", Mr Trump told reporters as he departed the White House for the NY trip.

A senior Trump transition team member, later identified as Mr Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, tells Flynn to contact foreign governments, including Russian Federation, to influence them to delay the vote or defeat the resolution. Flynn separately communicated with Kislyak after being asked by a senior Trump transition official to find out how foreign governments stood on a UN Security Council resolution about Israel and to influence those governments to delay the vote or defeat the resolution. At a news conference just days after Flynn was let go, Trump said he ousted him because of "what he said to Mike Pence".

Michael Flynn Jr., as he is known, accompanied his father on his 2015 trip to Moscow.

Trump made his brief comments about Flynn's plea deal before flying to NY for a fundraiser later Saturday, although he spent most of his time touting the Republican tax plan, which he continued to sell as "the biggest tax cut in the history of our nation".

At the time of Flynn's dismissal, the White House acknowledged only that Flynn had lied to Vice President Mike Pence about what he discussed with the ambassador - sanctions imposed by then-president Barack Obama against Russian Federation for meddling in the election. "People are going to be very, very happy".

The cooperation of Flynn, a senior campaign official and former top adviser on national security, could lead to inside information critical to Mueller's probe. The White House said Comey was dismissed on the recommendation of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Trump was much more content Saturday to talk to reporters about the taxes after Senate Republicans delivered him a rare legislative victory early Saturday morning, passing the sweeping tax plan they'd written hours earlier in a partyline vote.

It's unclear if the messages continued after Trump became president and after Mueller was appointed as special counsel in May.
