Donald Trump Says He Should Have Left UCLA Players Jailed In China

Trump on UCLA players released from China: 'I should have left them in jail!'

President Trump Blasts Father of Recently Released UCLA Player for Being Unappreciative of His Help in Gaining Son’s Release

"Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal", Trump wrote. They went to jail, but were released on bail, which is something that apparently indicated the Chinese authorities were taking a rather chill approach to all of this to begin with.

President Trump arrived in Beijing (as previously scheduled as part of a two-week Asia trip) just a day after the incident occurred and worked with Chinese President Xi Jinping to secure their release.

Of all the things LaVar Ball could have said about President Trump, "Who?" was probably the worst.

Following their release, the president initially demanded the UCLA basketball players to thank him publicly for helping to return them home. "Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out", he continued. The players missed the team's game with Georgia Tech in Shanghai and were forced to remain behind in China to deal with the fallout of the charges even after the rest of the team returned to Los Angeles.

Trump, apparently insecure about approval ratings, asked whether the players would thank him.

On Wednesday, UCLA coach Steve Alford announced the players were suspended indefinitely.

Athletic director Dan Guerrero said the shoplifting occurred when the team had 90 minutes of free time on November 6 in Hangzhou.

Fredricka Whitfield spoke with Stelter this afternoon on how "the way this President prioritizes is very confusing to a lot of people". Now if you can go back and say when he was 12 years old he was shoplifting and stealing cars and going wild, then that's a different thing.

"Everybody gets stuck on the negativity of some things and they get stuck on them too long".
