NFL Jerry Jones is hurting the league

As your client knows, having served as an ad hoc, non-voting member of the Compensation Committee until November 4, 2017, when he was removed for threatening, in bad faith, to sue the League and the voting members of the Committee, the Committee has been working diligently, and in good faith, for six months to negotiate and conclude a contract extension pursuant to its mandate under the Resolution.

The NFL has no shortage of issues plaguing it publicly and internally, from the national anthem protests to the ongoing revelations about brain damage among players. but if this story is any indication, the league is about to have a real big Jerry Jones problem on their hands.

As Ken Belson reported for the New York Times, Jones received a letter from other owners calling his "antics" damaging to the NFL and "conduct detrimental to the league's best interests", a sign from other NFL owners that they will not back down to Jones' threats. Potential disciplinary actions could include a fine, suspension or the loss of a draft pick or picks by the Cowboys. Maske clarified the sources he cited "stopped short of mentioning forcing Jones to sell".

The letter was sent to Jones through his attorney, David Boies, on Wednesday, one day after Jones expressed publicly that he had no intention of halting his efforts to prevent National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell from receiving a contract extension.

Jones, through a letter sent by an attorney for the Cowboys, accused Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank of misleading owners about the negotiations on the extension.

There's still no clear successor to Goodell should owners wish to oust him from his role.

In the letter, Jones also refers to "severe threats of retaliation" from fellow owners that "demonstrate the dysfunction of the current process".

The notion has only been entertained, per Florio, because of "the belief among owners that Jones instigated Papa John's CEO John Schnatter to disparage the NFL, blaming league leadership for ratings declines and, in turn, a reduction in Papa John's revenues".
