Modern Warfare Remastered: Standalone Expectations Can Now Be Forgotten

Call of Duty- WWII- Review

According to a press release we have received from Activision Blizzard the recently released Call of Duty: WWII is a rip-roaring success. Well, after being on the market for three days, it seems like thatbsame enthusiasm was brought over to sales - publisher Activision has released a few different sales numbers for the first-person shooter.

In an interview with NewsWeek, Activision's CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed a curious backdrop on Call of Duty World War 2 development. This issue came to a head past year with the release of COD: Infinite Warfare, with that game's announcement trailer being one of the most disliked videos on YouTube of all time. So what Call of Duty: WWII has really achieved, I think, is returning the franchise to the level of prestige it previously enjoyed.

Call of Duty: WWII made over $500 million within its first three days on the market, however Activision is saying we could have had a whole other game this year. So we discover that initially, the Sledgehammer Games development team wanted to work on Call of Duty Advanced Warfare 2 and not the unpublished episode of COD World War 2.

The return to a period setting was planned years ago, but came at a flawless time for the series after players and critics reacted poorly to last year's Infinite Warfare and its descent into out-and-out science fiction.

While those figures were still impressive, overall sales were down 50% compared to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 which sold close to $550 million on its opening weekend. "And we're committed to supporting the community with continuous improvements and new content".
