Jaya TV raids: The people understand what is going on, says TTV Dinakaran

Operation Clean Money: IT raids Jaya TV premises, properties of TTV Dhinakaran

Started by late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Jaya tv played a vital role of the AIADMK not only as a news channel but also as an entertainment channel playing movies of the matinee idols MGR and Jayalalithaa.

CR Saraswathi, a Dhinakaran camp loyalist and a party functionary, told the news channel, "Jaya TV has been running for so many years". The channel is now controlled by jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala's family members, led by her nephew Vivek Jayaraman.

Chennai: Income Tax (I-T) officials began raids at the premises of Jaya TV office in Chennai and its associates on Thursday morning over suspected tax evasion as part of 'Operation Clean Money'.

"Dhinakaran today said the Income-Tax raids at the residences of his family members were aimed at removing him and his aunt and jailed leader V K Sasikala from politics".

The Income Tax department also raided AIADMK Karnataka in-charge, Pugazhendi's house in Bengaluru's Domlur area.

Officers have reportedly been checking the office of a Tamil daily Namadhu MGR and Jaya TV network.

According to reports, the raids were targeted on concrete information of tax evasion and that they had been observing the situation for a long time. "What will they find there", Dinakaran said.

One of the first persons to react was Nanjil Sampth who has been associated with Dhinakaran.

The premises of Midas Distilleries and Jazz Cinemas, are also covered under the search operation, informed the sources. Searches are also being conducted at the college run by Mr.Dhivakaran and also at the residence of S. Kamaraj who was appointed Tiruvarur district Secretary of AIADMK (Amma) by T.T.V. Dinakaran, replacing Food Minister R. Kamaraj, recently. However, such raids on establishments and properties owned by Sasikala, who was a close aide of former CM Jayalalithaa, were unheard of in the past.

Following the factional divide in the ruling AIADMK, Jaya TV has been critical of the government led by chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O. Panneerselvam.

These raids will also impact the political situation in the state.
