Mueller Investigation Has Enough Evidence to Charge Michael Flynn - Media Report

House Speaker Paul Ryan pledged that Congress will not interfere with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible coordination between President Donald Trump's 2016 election campaign and Russian Federation - a probe that has intensified in the last week as Trump campaign officials, including former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, have been indicted. News said Mr Mueller's team was looking at possible money-laundering charges, lying to federal agents, and Mr Flynn's role in a possible plan to remove an opponent of the Turkish President from the USA in exchange for millions of dollars.

After former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and two others were indicted last week, the sources say Mueller is applying renewed pressure on Flynn.

Mr Manafort and his business partner, Rick Gates, were charged with 12 offences, including money laundering and conspiracy against the US.

The investigators will be questioning multiple witnesses in coming days to gain more information on Flynn's lobbying activities. If he is charged, the former National Security Adviser would be the first person who held an administration post to face prosecution. Sanders had also said President Donald Trump "has confidence they're going to close this up soon". It remained unclear Sunday if Mueller had plans to pursue charges against Flynn or his son.

Flynn's lawyer, Robert Kelner, declined to comment.

According to the Justice Department his consulting firm was paid $530,000 a year ago for work that may have helped the Turkish government but he had not registered as a foreign lobbyist at the time. Flynn's son had reportedly worked closely with his father at his lobbying firm, the Flynn Intel Group.

Mueller is pressuring Flynn to cooperate with the investigation and is apparently using the former national security adviser's son as leverage.

Another Trump campaign aide, George Papadopoulos, pleaded guilty to lying to FBI investigators.
