President Donald J. Trump is the 45th President of the United States
An op-ed in Politico Friday by former White House ethics attorneys Richard Painter, Norman Eisen, and Virginia Canter warns that Trump's contacts with Bannon, if they touched on Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation, could violate the law.
The 36-year-old voluntarily turned over documents from the campaign and from the transition, which were similar to ones he had given congressional investigators earlier this year.
Two separate sources told CNN that investigators have asked other witnesses about Kushner's role in firing Comey.
A White House official told CNN that the Mueller team's questions about Kushner are not a surprise, and that the senior advisor would be among a list of people who investigators would be asking about. Bannon for the first eight months of Trump's presidency was his top strategic adviser and reportedly clashed frequently with Kushner.
"He owns the Observer", Kushner said. "The walls are closing in", one senior Republican close to the White House told the "New York Post".
After Mr. Mueller's special counsel team announced the Manafort and Gates indictments, they unsealed a guilty plea by former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos for making a false statement to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about Russian contacts.
The White House did not respond to Vanity Fair's request for comment.
Mr Trump continued to dismiss the indictments as "fake news" after their release, and attempted to shift the focus to Hillary Clinton's dealings with Russian Federation.
"Jared is the worst political adviser in the White House in modern history", Sam Nunberg, a former Trump campaign operative, told Vanity Fair.
The Russia investigation has cast a shadow on the Trump administration this week as Trump's ex-campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his longtime business partner Rick Gates were both indicted on charges of lobbying on behalf of a pro-Russian leader in Ukraine and for failing to properly register as a foreign agent. The former advisor added, " I would say [Kushner] should go back to real estate in NY.
