DOOM Switch Release Date Set, Out Next Month
Recently, DualShockers got the chance to sit down with the Switch version of DOOM.
The companies revealed the release date in separate posts on Twitter, alongside an interview with Doom developer id Software.
It was said to be incoming, and now we have the date: You can play studio id Software's 2016 splatter-festDoomon the Nintendo Switch this November 10. Members of id Software remind users of the console that they can enjoy the entire original DOOM campaign. "Our mantra when we were developing it was to remove really all the barriers between the player and the combat", Martin explains in the interview. "They really tailored the experience toward [the Switch] hardware without watering anything down". Stratton says that means all the "awesome features" found in the other versions are here, the chief compromise being a drop from 60 to 30 frames per second. Since then we've seen footage of the game running in handheld mode, and it looks insanely good for a console that's not only portable, but far less powerful than the consoles the game was previously created to work on.
Switch owners can look forward to the definitive version of Doom from a feature standpoint. When Bethesda announced they were bringing over just about all of their recent titles (Skyrim is launching on November 17th as well, with WolfensteinII at some point) would be coming to the system, I was overjoyed.
All 18 multiplayer maps and 12 game modes will also be available, as well as all previously available DLC. There's far more that goes into that decisions (at least we like to think most of the time), but dismal sales for Skyrim and DOOM might start changing Bethesda's perceptions on support for Nintendo's new golden child.
