Russia Denies Blame for Saudi King's Awkward Escalator Malfunction

Some members of King Salman's entourage replaced hotel staff for the four-day visit and a plane is making daily trips between Riyadh and Moscow for food and other supplies.

Photos show Putin personally pour a cup of tea for his royal guest at the Kremlin Palace.

The visit of 100 business man is planned to make 25 agreements in different areas, while King Salman is expected to sign a $3.5 billion weapons purchase agreement.

King Salman of Saudi Arabia arrived in Moscow, Russia, yesterday for a state visit during which he will discuss the topic of the investment fund and finalising what deals can be enacted in the near future to strengthen relations between the two countries.

The visit this week to Moscow by the Saudi King is the first for a reigning Saudi monarch, marking a new level in relations between #Saudi Arabia and Russian Federation.

It did not specify the potential value of the deals but said the procurement was "based on the assurance of the Russian party to transfer the technology and localize the manufacturing and sustainment of these armament systems in the Kingdom". That marked a shift for the kingdom, which buys most of its military kit from the United States and Britain. Our relations have an extremely large history, "he said". Mr Putin expressed hope that it would boost ties between the two countries.

Moscow and Riyadh worked together to secure a deal between OPEC and other oil producers to cut output until the end of March 2018, helping support prices.

Saudi Arabia has made no firm pledge to extend the deal, but Falih said his country was "flexible" regarding Moscow's suggestion. Saudi Arabia is backing rebel groups in Syria.

Saudi Arabia and Russian Federation are heavily dependent on oil exports and the plunge of the price of crude that began in 2014 lashed both of their economies.

The source estimated that size of the Saudi delegation to Russian Federation to be more than 100 people, adding that the visit will last four days. USA light crude was up 10 cents at $50.08.

Asked about ties with Riyadh during a panel discussion at an global energy conference Wednesday, Putin responded that Moscow doesn't see close US-Saudi relations as an obstacle for closer cooperation with the Saudis, and added that alliances tend to shift.

Peskov said the cooperation between Moscow and Riyadh was in the interest of both countries and also of the world's stability.

"I think these fundamental mutual interests will sooner or later change the nature of Russian-U.S. relations for the better", Putin said.

"It's clear that Russian Federation has been able to play a weak hand very well and step into vacuums everywhere where the USA has retreated", she said.
