Plane engine blows

An Air France flight from Paris to Los Angeles made an emergency landing in eastern Canada on Saturday after one of its four engines sustained "serious damage" over the Atlantic, the airline said.

The passengers of the plane posted photos of the damaged engine.

Fortunately the plane was able to land safely.

The extent of the damage or what caused it is unclear, but images shared by passengers on social media show that one of the engines appear to have crumbled.

The flight diverted to Canada where it landed safely in Goose Bay, according to a passenger.

Photographs taken by passengers aboard the Air France flight circulated on the internet soon after the aircraft landed.

"Technical issue identified, AF66 diverting per precaution to Goose Bay YYR for technical checks".

The crew were able to conduct a visual examination and determined that the engine's cowling inlet had blown out. It is one of the powerplant options available for the Airbus A380, along with the Rolls-Royce Trent 900. The debris had to be cleaned up before Runway 26 could be reopened.
