Missouri's electric cooperatives have helped out with hurricane relief in the past.

About 60 line workers from Indiana's electric cooperatives are heading south to help restore power in areas affected by Hurricane and Tropical Storm Irma.

Electric co-ops in Louisiana and MS have also returned help in Missouri, helping to restore power after ice storms in 2007 and 2009. "Alabama's cooperatives are always willing to help our fellow cooperatives when there is a need". Offers of assistance came from electric cooperatives as far away as New Hampshire, Vermont and South Dakota.

PEC crews are scheduled to meet with Talquin Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Quincy, to restore power at a quicker pace over the next several days.

But, he said, the crews -who typically serve multiple northeast IN counties, including southern Allen County - like helping storm-torn areas.

Crews are expected to be gone up to two weeks, according to information from Meeker Cooperative. The Okefenoke Rural Electric Membership Corporation along the Florida-Georgia line reported that 95 percent of its electric system was knocked out by the storm.

When reached Monday morning, Froemming said the local cooperative was waiting for word on where help would be needed.

Missouri's electric cooperatives are no strangers to helping out in hurricane zones. Roughly 785,000 of these are electric co-op outages.
