One in custody after 'active-shooter' case at NH hospital

Patient killed by son at New Hampshire hospital, authorities say

The Lebanon Police Department is asking people to avoid the area while roads around the hospital have been closed.

A suspect is in custody after federal, state and local law enforcement officials responded to reports of an active shooter at New Hampshire's largest hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Lebanon police in New Hampshire told Fox News they received "reports of shots fired", but did not confirm there was a shooter in the building. He also confirmed that local and state police were on site. Witnesses said via Twitter they had heard gunshots in the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) ward.

A silver SUV at the entrance of the hospital's campus was surrounded by police after the hospital was locked down following the reports of an active shooter.

A spokesman for the hospital, Mike Barwell, would say only that they have reported "an incident" to police and that officers are responding.

Darmouth College, an Ivy League school whose main campus is two miles away from the hospital, said that the suspect was a 6-feet-one-inch man in a red camouflage shirt tall with salt and pepper blonde hair. It is not clear if the lockdown has been lifted.

This a developing story.
