Records tumble in transfer window but Premier League clubs continue to spend within means

English clubs smash spending record in 1.4 billion-pound splurge

The transfer window in Europe's other major leagues runs until 31 August, meaning clubs outside England could buy players from English top-flight teams after the new Premier League deadline.

English Premier League managers rose from their meeting on Thursday and voted for the early closure of the transfer window in the summer of 2018, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

UNITED and Manchester City led the charge against the Premier League's revolutionary idea to close the summer transfer window early.

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore told Sky Sports News: There was a big concern that the Premier League has been playing two or three match rounds with a degree of uncertainty between themselves.

Next summer, in particular, could see deals getting done and dusted extremely quickly with the World Cup only ending 25 days before the Premier League window shuts.

This means the summer transfer window next year, will close on August 9, the Thursday before the 2018/2019 season kicks off. United's vote was apparently cast against the wishes of José Mourinho, who said last last month that he would "prefer the window to close as soon as possible". In my view, it is not good when footballers play for one club when the league starts and another club when the transfer window closes.

According to reports, Burnley was the club abstaining from the vote. "It is unusual that you play for one club when the season starts and then that you can simply play for another one". "The best is before starting the competitions, stop the transfer window because it's very silly".

The vote comes after complaints from managers that transfer activity disrupts their preparation once the season is underway.

"If we do it in the Premier League and the rest of Europe don't do this, still we have a problem", said Everton boss Ronald Koeman.

Many might say that any coach or club worth their value should sufficiently prepare, and that it puts a healthier onus on wider structures and staff, but it is still a fact of the game that nothing exposes how a team works like competitive football.
