Google Assistant is coming to more smart speakers
It's not clear if any of the appliances will have the ability to directly take commands, but users will be able to control appliances using Google Assistant on Android, iOS, or a smart speaker.
Google highlighted three speakers that will carry Google Assistant: the Zolo Mojo from popular accessories maker Anker, the TicHome Mini from Chinese manufacturer Mobvoi, and Panasonic's SC-GA10. Additional smart speakers and appliances to adopt Google Assistant will be announced in the days to come. Indeed, Google has confirmed that smart appliances should soon begin to respond to the "Ok Google" trigger phrase, so that you'll be able to do things like start washing cycles by voice. But if for some reason your music streaming app is not supported by the Google Assistant, you can still stream via Bluetooth, and it does support the latest version of Bluetooth, version 5.
But bringing it to third party speakers is new territory for Google.
Why this matters:Google Home is already a better speaker than any of Amazon's Echo models, but you can buy an Echo Dot for $50 and add third-party speakers of very high quality if you're of a mind to. These new speakers are due to be launched later this year, with primary launch markets being Australia, Canada, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and the US.
Finally the push for Google Assistant to be placed in a new devices is happening. Need to clean up? The list should get longer as Google announces more devices along the week.
Google is expanding the reach of its voice-based Assistant, announcing support for third-party speakers that are coming later in the year. With the integration of voice assistant, users can ask questions like "Ok Google, is the laundry done?". "Getting help around the house will be easier than ever".
The speakers are going to be fairly widely available, with Google announcing that most will be coming to the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany and France.
